Russia to lift ban on imports of some fruit, vegetables from Egypt
MOSCOW, Sep 26 (PRIME) -- Russia’s Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Oversight plans to lift a ban on imports of some fruit and vegetables from Egypt, the service’s Director Sergei Dankvert told reporters Monday after a meeting with a delegation from Egypt.
On September 22, the service introduced temporary restrictions on imports of plant products from Egypt due to the country’s systematic violations of phytosanitary regulations.
“The direction here is as follows – we will choose what we are able to unban now, but we leave a right to come with an inspection at any moment and close imports if they are not working effectively,” Dankvert said.
“We will not unban something. But we will decide now what exactly we will not open, people will go there and check where there are undesired organisms and where there are not,” he said, adding that imports of potatoes will not be restarted right now.
